Actress Debra Messing on Thursday slammed ABC’s “The View” for hosting Donald Trump Jr., calling the show’s decision “very disappointing” and “irresponsible” because Trump Jr. “and his family have assaulted our country.”
The story: Trump Jr. appeared on the show Thursday to discuss his book “Triggered: How the Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us” but ended up assailed by a flurry of questions concerning his father’s presidency and the Ukraine whistleblower controversy.

“Why would you bring him on? You trying to be ‘balanced?’ He and his family have assaulted our country, our democracy, our environment, our national security, moral compass,” Messing tweeted Thursday. “Very very disappointing and irresponsible decision [in my opinion].”
@TheView Why would you bring him on? You trying to be “balanced?” He and his family have assaulted our country, our democracy, our environment, our national security, moral compass. Very very disappointing and irresponsible decision imo. #TheView https://t.co/GFImW5NsDM

The actress has targeted the Trumps before, calling on the media in late August to out President Trump’s Hollywood donors — a demand also made by her Will & Grace co-star Eric McCormack, Breitbart reported.

The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg criticized Messing’s remarks at the time, saying: “The last time people did this, people ended up killing themselves,” Goldberg said at the time, apparently referring to the McCarthy era in Hollywood. “This is not a good idea, OK?”
“In this country, people can vote for who they want to. That is one of the great rights of this country. You don’t have to like it, but we don’t go after people because we don’t like who they voted for,” Goldberg added.
Shortly after that controversy, Messing drew backlash again for backing a racist sign put up by an Alabama Baptist church which suggested black Trump voters have a mental illness.
A white celebrity on the left @DebraMessing is basically telling black people how to think. Seems like a form of intellectual slavery to me. Liberal policies have hurt black communities around the country and these same people are silent. #RealTalk pic.twitter.com/rRtIOyPcHb

The actress later removed the tweet and apologized for “recklessly supporting” the racist message, but still argued that “black people are targeted by Trump’s GOP for voter suppression.”
NUMBER 1– I apologized for liking that church sign. I said I regret it. I shud have thought before recklessly suppprting. You won’t accept this but black people are targeted by Trump’s GOP for voter supression. Charlottesville was about Trump supporters hating POC and Jews. https://t.co/K0ch9YOQ8F
