Sen. Kamala Harris, along with Sens. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Catherine Cortez-Masto (D-NV), is introducing a bill that would amend the law to include Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients as eligible for paid employment in Congress, reported Politico.
Harris’ statement: “The giant sign outside my office says ‘DREAMers Welcome Here’ because we know and value the contributions that these young people have made to their communities. Government works best when it reflects the people it represents.”
The Latino voters are one of the Democratic 2020 contenders’ main targets as they rally in Latino-heavy states and create Spanish websites to build up support among them. “The field of Democrats rushing the White House is impressive, but Latinos aren’t consolidating around one candidate yet. This is the bottom line. We led the blue wave in 2018, so 2020 candidates would be foolish to treat Latinos as an afterthought,” said Kevin de León, a Democratic former California state Senate leader.
